Earth Day 2023:Enchanting Activities for the whole family

Updated: Oct 30, 2023

Earth Day is a great opportunity to teach children about the importance of taking care of our planet and the environment. If you're looking for activities to do with children, our characters here at Fairytales & Friends have come up with some wonderful ideas for you!

Plant a Garden

Our Bayou Princess is known for her hand-grown ingredients for her gumbo, making her the perfect princess to inspire a garden project. Gather some soil, seeds, and small pots and let your little ones plant their own garden. You can use this opportunity to talk about the importance of plants in our ecosystem and how they help keep our air clean.

Go on a Nature Walk

Our Wishing Princess is all about living in harmony with the world around us and loves all her woodland creature friends. Take a nature walk with your kids and point out different plants, animals, and insects you see along the way. Encourage them to appreciate the beauty of nature and talk about ways we can help protect it.

Make Crafts with Recyclable Materials

Our Mermaid Princess may not be an expert on land-based conservation, but she knows a thing or two about the ocean and the creatures that live there. Use this as an opportunity to talk about how our actions on land can affect the ocean and its inhabitants. Then, gather up recyclable materials like cardboard boxes, empty cans, and plastic bottles and help your kids turn them into fun crafts like bird feeders, wind chimes, or planters.

Organize a Neighborhood Cleanup

The Glass Slipper Princess may be a princess now, but she knows the value of hard work and taking care of the world around her. Gather a group of kids and parents from your neighborhood and organize a cleanup event. Give out gloves, bags, and other materials to help pick up trash and beautify your community. This is a great way to teach kids about the impact we can have when we work together to make a difference.

Host a Beach Cleanup

Our Wayfinder Princess is all about the ocean and the importance of keeping it clean. Organize a beach cleanup with your family or a group of friends. Bring gloves and garbage bags and spend a few hours picking up litter and debris from the beach (or any body of water). You can even turn it into a fun competition by seeing who can collect the most trash.

Plant a Butterfly Garden

Our Miracle Keeper loves butterflies and their delicate beauty. Plant a butterfly garden in your yard or a nearby park by choosing plants that attract butterflies, such as milkweed, butterfly bush, and coneflower. Your kids will love watching the butterflies visit their garden and learning about the important role they play in the ecosystem.

Make Recycled Paper

Our Rose Princess is a bookworm who loves to read and learn. Teach your kids about the importance of recycling and reducing waste by making recycled paper. Shred old paper, mix it with water, and use a screen and rolling pin to make your own paper. Your kids can decorate it with drawings or use it to make their own books.

Create a Nature Scavenger Hunt

Our Star Heroine is all about adventure and used to be a scavenger herself. Create a nature scavenger hunt for your kids by making a list of things they can find in nature, such as a certain type of flower, a feather, or a pinecone. Give them a bag to collect their treasures and see who can find everything on the list first. You can even turn it into a learning experience by talking about the different plants and animals they discover along the way.

Create an "Exotic Safari"

Our Magic Carpet Princess is from Agrabah, a place known for its desert landscapes and exotic animals. Take inspiration from Jasmine and create your own "jungle safari" in your backyard or a nearby park. Use animal print decorations, set up binoculars, and create animal habitats for your children to explore. You can also incorporate animal facts and conservation tips into the experience to teach them about wildlife protection.

Build a Fairy House

Our Tinker Fairy is known for her magical fairy dust and creativity. Encourage your kids to use their imagination and build a fairy house with materials found in nature. Collect twigs, leaves, flowers, and moss and use them to create a fairy-sized home. You can also discuss the importance of maintaining natural habitats for wildlife and how building structures like birdhouses and bee hotels can help protect them.

Host a "Picnic in the Woods"

Our Lantern Princess is known for her love of the outdoors, and wanting to be outside of her tower. Host a "picnic in the woods" with your family or a group of friends. Bring blankets and a basket of snacks, and enjoy the beauty of nature around you. Use this opportunity to talk about the importance of respecting and protecting natural spaces.

Create a "Superhero Cleanup Crew"

Our Heroes are known for their bravery and their dedication to helping others. Create a "Superhero Cleanup Crew" with your kids, complete with capes and masks, and set out to clean up your neighborhood or local park. You can make it a fun competition by seeing who can collect the most litter or use it as a way to teach kids about the importance of taking responsibility for our own waste and litter.

By incorporating some magic into Earth Day activities, you can make it fun and engaging for kids while also teaching them important lessons about environmental conservation and sustainability. Get creative, have fun, and help your children become Earth Day heroes!
